Same ending, different landing

Rain → train. “The kick came back like summer rain / I rode that snare like the last night train.” Both endings take one syllable. You can leave the last beat open for the rhyme.

Rain → refrain. “My notes ran blue in the window rain / The wheels kept singing the same refrain.” Start “refrain” a little earlier and land “-frain” where “train” used to sit.

Street → concrete. “One loose wheel scratched a snare down the street / Four kids found a stage in a square of concrete.” Say the pair in your own accent; a word that matches on paper may need a different stress when you perform it.

What counts as a match?

The lookup compares the sounds from the last stressed vowel to the end of each word in the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary. It uses US English pronunciations, so words with different spellings can match. The number beside each result counts syllables in the whole word. Try “read”. For the past tense, choose the ending that rhymes with “red”. For the present tense, choose the one that rhymes with “seed”. Select a syllable count to narrow either list.

Names are included; slang and new spellings may be missing. Near rhymes with different endings are outside this lookup. Searching costs no credits and does not use a daily AI lyric request. Dictionary license.
